Cebu-Bohol Discovery: (Best Tourist Attractions and Things to Do)
Welcome to Cebu Discovery!
The name "Cebu" came from the old Cebuano word sibu or sibo "trade", a shortened form of sinibuayng hingpit "the place for trading". It was originally applied to the harbors of the town of Sugbu, the ancient name for Cebu City.
Cebu is located in Central Visayas Region, Philippines. It is the country’s oldest city, and it has that excellent blend of urban and natural attractions without having travel far away. One can delight in good food, great live entertainment, rich culture, best attractions, and world-class beaches all over the island all in just a matter of hours – here in Cebu.
Let’s discover the
“Queen City of the South” as I give you tips on how to make the most of your
Cebu adventure.
Temple of Leah, “The Cebu’s iconic Taj Mahal”
Cebu City’s Temple of Leah is a
symbol of the undying love of husband Teodorico Soriano Adarna to his wife Leah
Villa Albino-Adarna. The temple has 24 chambers including a museum, an art
gallery and a library.
The view at night is especially
beautiful as I can see the veins of the city all lit up and sparkling against
the darkness. It was spectacular to witness this temple, I truly had the chance
to admire the entirety Greek and Roman architecture! I think you must try
to visit the place in the morning so that you can avoid the heat or afternoon before sunset.
10,000 Roses of Cebu, “The Most Romantic Garden in Mactan Cebu”
Discover the first-ever unique cafe in the
Philippines, with a theme of artificial LED-powered roses. It’s amazing how
this Korean Cafe turned into a tourist destination because of its
characteristics.
I go here as a tourist. I don’t buy a
drink in the cafe. I just pay the entrance fee to go around the Korean cafe to
take pictures. By the way, they are not real flowers, apparently, but made of
synthetic and plastic petals each supported by metals that serve as stems
making stand. When the power is turned on, they are turned into glowing fields
of flowers which creates a fantasy dreamland. And from the deck, I am also captivated
by the fantastic view of the sea.
Note: I suggest to visit morning to
avoid the heat, or night so that you will witness the glowing field.
Basilica Menor del Santo Niño, “Say a prayer at Basilica del Sto. Niño”
Discover the oldest Roman Catholic Church
established in the Philippines in honor of the Holy Child Jesus, the Basilica
Menor del Santo Niño known as Basilica del Sto. Niño was founded in the 16th
century.
It was my first visit here, and I was amazed. I see ancient paintings, gorgeous archways, stained glass
windows, and overall, a piece of architecture that is awe-inspiring around the place. While
outside the church I buy candles from the candle vendors and they ask my family
name, then they dance to the high heavens while praying my family name. You must try this, especially if you are a religious person.
Taboan Public Market, “The Danggit Capital of Cebu City”
It is a popular spot for
a dried fish lover, you have a great selection of dried fish and other
delicacies in Cebu.
Dried seafood is not the
only goods I buy at Taboan, I also choose from the wide array of Cebuano
delicacies for pasalubong to my loved ones. And take note that the place stinks. the stench
is so strong, it will stick to your clothes, hair and everything else that you
wear, like third-hand smoke. So, I suggest you better go here after your
tour here in Cebu City.
Must-Eat Filipino Restaurant
in Mandaue City, Cebu
Sugbahan Restaurant, “An Authentic Filipino Restaurant in
Mandaue City”
Filipino dishes are to be tasted
here, and getting in was impressive because their plaque and awards are going
to welcome you giving you an impression that they might be a good resto after
all.
I love this local food in the
restaurant. It differs throughout Cebu and here at Sugbahan, it tastes earthy.
Also, love the tempura it was crunchy and delicious! So, if your looking for a budget restaurant, you must try here in Sugbahan, Mandaue City.
Welcome to Bohol Discovery!
The name Bohol is
thought to be derived from the name of the barrio of Bo-ol, a barangay found in
Tagbilaran City which was among the first places toured by the Magellan
expedition.
Bohol is located at
the heart of Central Visayas, Philippines. The home of the famous Chocolate
Hills, and one of the Philippines’s most iconic travel destinations. The island
province offers breathtaking spots for history buffs, beach lovers, and
adrenaline junkies. And it offers an unforgettable Bohol experience.
How
fun and fascinating Bohol really can be? Let me take you to the beautiful spots
and sights Bohol has to offer!
Chocolate Hills, “A world Natural Heritage of Bohol”
It is one of the famous hills in the Philippines, which are usually covered in green grass, dry up
and turn chocolatey brown during the dry season.
As I visit the place, I get mesmerized by the beauty of the majestic Chocolate Hills. It is so fantastic when you see it personally. So, bring your friends and have an adventure!
Note: ATV Ride is also a must-try activity after a fun viewing of the place.
Baclayon Church, “A trace of Religious History in Bohol”
Baclayon Church is
known for centuries-old churches that some of which were built during the
Spanish colonial times.
The storytelling of the caterer of the church was remarkable because she said that Millions of white eggs were said to have been used as cement and the church was made of coral stones. And I was amazed by its majestic facade leads to an undeniably stunning interior that includes a gold-plated altar and an assortment of centuries-old religious images and artifacts. It was well preserved! A must visit view in Bohol.
Tarsier
Conservation Area, “The Peculiar Creatures of Bohol”
What is a Tarsier?
A tarsier is
a primate (e.g. apes and monkeys) that belongs to a 45-million-year-old animal
family called Tarsiidae.
Their group
used to be more widespread. But today, they are officially recognized as
endangered species that are predominantly found in Southeast Asia, such as the
places of the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
My tour in
the Loboc Tarsier Conservation Area was interesting, at first – after all, it
was my first time to see a tarsier! If it's not raining, the entire experience
would be pleasant indeed. Staff are very accommodating, help us to take the
right photo at the right angle.
Bilar Man-Made
Forest, “Man-made mahogany forest of Bohol”
The man-made
forest stands out because of the uniformity in height of the big trees, the
spread of its branches, thickness and design of leaves.
With my discovery when we enter this parallel tunnel of trees, I love the serenity, and ambience of this place. I feel like I've just entered another realm.
When
touring Bohol, you'll usually pass through this forest so do a quick stop and
take photos because it's a nice place, just be careful of passing vehicles.
Note: It gets dark earlier than usual here due to the thick forest so better to visit early.
Must-Try Authentic Restaurant in, Loboc River, Bohol
Loboc River Cruise,
“Lunch Buffet Floating
Restaurant in Bohol”
Experience
cruising along the jade-green Loboc River while you feast on a sumptuous buffet
of local dishes.
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole river experience, the food was really good considering it's a buffet, (I love it because it's a lot of kinds of seafood) and the entertainment onboard was superb, and having a photographer onboard was added value. The scenery and the performance of the locals were amazing. I want to revisit here someday!
Note: The
entire trip was approximately 1 hour.
You shouldn't miss this tourist spot during Bohol Tours.
